First Augusta A109 Grand Helicopter in USA fitted with Latitude Technologies SkyNode S200 voice and tracking system
September 25, 2006N1US, the first Augusta A109 Grand Helicopter to be based in the United States, has been fitted with the SkyNode S200-021 satellite voice and tracking system manufactured by Latitude Technologies. The system includes separate dialers for flight crew and cabin passengers.
The A109 was flown from the factory in Italy to the US. Upon arrival, the S200 system was installed and immediately impressed the new owner with its tracking accuracy. The helicopter will be based in the mid-Atlantic States and operated in the DC area.
The Augusta A109 Grand Helicopter complete with the SkyNode S200-021 installation will be on display in the Augusta booth at this month’s NBAA convention. Next spring, the A109 will depart on an around the world helicopter speed record flight and will be tracked using the S200-021 tracking functions and Latitude’s Sentinel web-based mapping and reporting system. “Voice and data communications will be vital to our success during the upcoming record breaking flights as well as a necessity during routine operations in remote areas” said Steve Sheik, Chief Pilot for N1US.
