Latitude Selected to Provide Satcom for Ornge Pilatus PC-12 Fleet
February 23, 2009Ornge, Canada’s leading innovator in the field of transport medicine has selected Latitude Technologies to provide satellite telephone and flight-tracking equipment and services for Ornge’s fleet of Pilatus PC-12 aircraft, for which an initial acquisition of six planes was recently announced. The PC-12s are scheduled for delivery through 2009 and 2010, with the first already in its final completion stages. The new aircraft will provide medical services for patients requiring advanced and critical care during transport.
The Ornge PC-12s are being outfitted with Latitude’s SkyNode® S200-021 dual channel Iridium satellite telephone transceivers. Each aircraft will have multiple command terminals located in the medical cabin as well as on the flight deck. Flight tracking, text messaging, and telematics data capture and transmission are part of the system that Latitude is providing. Installation is being handled by V. Kelner Pilatus Center of Thunder Bay, Ontario, the Canadian distributor for Swiss aircraft manufacturer, Pilatus.
The communications package specified by Ornge is state-of-the-art for performance, capability, and built-in redundancy. Operating range will not be an issue as the Iridium satellite constellation guarantees coverage everywhere on the planet. Latitude currently supports Ornge’s leased fleet of eleven Sikorsky S76A helicopters and four King Air 200 turboprops with SkyNode S200 equipment and LWS SentinelTM data management services.
