Latitude Receives EASA Approval for Bell 206/407 & AS350/355 Helicopters

Latitude Technologies, a leading provider of satellite based communication, tracking and onboard aircraft data systems announced that their SkyNode S100-001 satellite based tracking/messaging device has received EASA Supplemental Type Certificate number “10030644” covering Bell Helicopter Textron models 206, 206A, 206A1, 206B, 206B1, 206L, 206L1, 206L3, 206L4 and 407. Certificate numbers “10030640” and “10030765” cover Eurocopter models AS350B, AS350B1 AS350B2, AS350B3, AS350BA, AS350D, AS350D1, AS55E, AS355F, AS355F1, AS355F2, AS355N and the AS355NP, effectively providing a certification base for most of the intermediate helicopters in operation today. “This STC is a significant milestone in our plan to provide European installers and operators the highest quality standardized installation solutions anywhere” stated Mark Insley, President of Latitude, “in addition, these EASA S100 STC’s are continued proof that we are growing our base of approvals to include most popular airframe types worldwide”.

The Skynode S100-001 is the smallest and lightest field proven tracking and data telemetry device in the industry. It provides security and crew safety for air/ground logistics applications anywhere in the world with interfaces available to multiple mapping and information management systems. The S100-001 provides automatic flight following exceeding Forestry AFF live tracking requirements, provides reliable 2-way data networking/messaging, is remotely configurable, provides data logging and event triggering from external switches/buttons and is equipped with an internal fast-fix 20 channel WAAS GPS receiver. In addition, auxiliary GPS serial data outputs for Moving Map, Electronic Flight Bag and 406 ELT’s are provided. It now is possible for any SkyNode customer to use their satellite telephone as an extension to their office. Callers will no longer be restricted by outrageous pricing from their local telephone companies when calling a satellite telephone, in addition, custom pin access codes can be individually programmed to control unauthorized calls. Overall, we’re bridging the gap between the cell phone market and satellite telephones with a substantial cost savings to operate our satellite transceivers anywhere.

Significant savings can be made calling from landlines to aircraft and from aircraft to aircraft. This type of call traditionally can cost upwards of $15/minute as an international phone call through a regular telephone company but with Latitude’s convenient local calling service, calls can be made for as little as $1.49/minute. The Latitude one number feature allows for easier dialing, no more international calling fees and the flexibility to have a specific telephone number stay with an individual aircraft rather than be associated with the transceiver itself.

EASA STC for Latitude Technologies’ SkyNode S200 Satcom System

Latitude Technologies announced today that Norway-based Airlift AS, an international dealer for Latitude, has successfully obtained EASA STC “10028603” for the installation of Latitude Technologies’ SkyNode S200 satellite communications system. The STC covers installations in the Eurocopter AS 365 and EC 155 helicopters. Airlift AS completed an STC and installation on the Eurocopter AS332 last year for its aircraft based in extremely remote areas near and above the Arctic Circle where reliable communications and flight tracking are highly critical to aircraft logistics, SAR operations and safety. The SkyNode S200 can be installed by Airlift at their Førde Airport, Norway facility or by any EASA Part 145 repair station worldwide.

“We have had very favourable results with the installation of the S200-021 in the Super Puma last year prompting us to repeat the EASA certification program in the Dauphin”, said Arild Ryland head of design for Airlift AS.

Emergency Location Safety feature introduced by Latitude Technologies

The configurable 6 axis accelerometer will have basic factory settings mirroring the common aircraft emergency locator transmitter but can be customized to user defined settings. “This new safety feature is extremely important to the future of aviation accident reporting and investigation”, stated David Thomas VP Business Development, “the combination of our Smart AFF product line with this event triggering switch technology virtually makes traditional aircraft emergency location products redundant”. The technology marriage allows aircraft to be tracked from take-off through customized flight profiles to the exact geographic position of a gravity triggered event. Latitude Technologies and SEI Industries Sign Teaming Agreement
